The Honorable Marsha Looper is a rancher, Realtor and small business owner who represents House District 19 in southern Colorado. A Republican, Rep. Looper serves on the Agriculture, Livestock, & Natural Resources; Local Government committees. In her first term, she successfully passed a bill to require disclosure of the water supply for any residential sale and another bill prohibits specific metropolitan districts from exercising the power of eminent domain. http://www.gomarsha.org
Rep. Looper's legislative efforts have focused on private property rights, water rights, transportation issues, and business and economic development initiatives. All of this is affected by legal and illegal immigration to Colorado. Rep. Looper made headlines this past summer with her proposal to open discussions with the Departments of Agriculture, and Labor and Employment, and private businesses to protect the integrity and efficiency of the H-2A temporary worker program. While she opposes amnesty for illegal immigrants, Rep. Looper has a keen understanding of the economic benefits provided to Colorado's farmers by seasonal workers.
Rep. Looper will present an overview of immigration law in Colorado and discussion of possible reforms.
