The mill-levy freeze causing property tax to rise. Public employees forming unions and driving up salary and benefits costs to the taxpayers. A moratorium on TABOR. An anticipated windfall of $10 billion to the State from Ref C monies. A proposed $100 increase on car registration and an additional .22 per gallon on gasoline. The unfunded mandates of PERA. SB128 that would eliminate the 6.9% limitation on sales tax. A wish-list of higher taxes on oil shale from the Western Slope to fund all-day childcare and health care for children. Higher taxes on alcohol. Calls to "reform" TABOR, the Gallagher Amendment, and Byrd-Arvescough. Plans for "universal health care." Maybe we should require all legislators to go through a class on basic free-market economics? Sen. Shawn Mitchell has been ranked by the Denver Post as one of Colorado's Top Ten lawmakers. We agree. He's served three terms in the House and was elected to the Senate in 2004. Committee assignments include Health & Human Services, Legal Services, and Transportation. Shawn is known for his work to protect families and their property, including passing several laws to protect property owners from abusive eminent domain and asset seizure. Shawn has also worked to strengthen the justice system and passed measures adding 24 new judgeships, and bills making government meeting and documents more open and available to the public. Previously, Shawn worked as special counsel to CO Attorney General Gale Norton. He maintains a private practice. He and his family live in Broomfield.
