An emboldened labor movement is pushing an aggressive activist agenda that would impose new and costly regulations on businesses, disrupt the way businesses are run, and stifle the U.S. economy. This agenda may be good for union bosses and their grab for power, but it's bad for U.S. competitiveness, bad for our economy, and bad for American workers.  The U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched the Workforce Freedom Initiative to specifically oppose the "Employee Free Choice Act", a badly named piece of legislation, which would eliminate the secret ballot in union elections and impose mandatory arbitrations and penalties.  Kelly Weist, a Colorado grassroots consultant, will update you on this effort by the U.S. Chamber.

Steve Durham is a former Colorado State legislator and "dean" of the Colorado lobbying corps with a reputation as one of its most influential members. Steve offers a unique perspective on the election, what the decisions mean for business in Colorado, and what the Democrat-controlled Legislature and governor may have in mind for the next session.  Steve was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives as a Republican in 1974, and was re-elected in 1976 and 1979. In 1980, he was elected to the Colorado Senate, and in 1981, he was appointed a regional administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency. He left the post in 1983. He is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado.
